I covered another Taekwondo event last weekend. In fact it was a two-in-one championship.
- Day 1 : 1st December 2007 - 3rd Milo-MTCA Inter Club Taekwondo Championship
- Day 2 : 2nd December 2007 - 2nd Inter Team Under-17 Unity Taekwondo Carnival
Report from New Straits Times, NST Online 04-12-2007:
It was the second consecutive year that Koryo has won the championships but this year they took the title with ease as second-placed Gemilang Taekwondo Club, based in Terengganu, were a distant second with six gold, five silver and 12 bronze.
Third were Kuala Lumpur club Cemerlang with six gold, three silver and five bronze
Cemerlang, however, were the outstanding team in the girls' 14-17,
emerging category champions with three gold, five silver and one bronze.
Malaysia Taekwondo Clubs Association (MTCA) president Chee Hock Choong said the response from clubs and state teams was overwhelming.
"We had initially, due to time constraints, limited the championships to 500 exponents but such was the response that in the end, 890 competed.
"We couldn't turn them away and we are glad that we didn't as the quality was good and we believe the competition delivered on its objective of exposing young exponents to quality competition," said Hock Choong.
The challenge trophy is in honour of former
MTCA honorary secretary Sonny Lee Swee Thong who died following a
motorcycle accident last year.
As I mentioned in the previous post, i was in Penang last weekend. On the way to Kepala Batas, Penang, I took a wrong turn and ended up taking the bridge to Penang Island. I had to cough up RM7.00 for the "scenic" route plus some more additional fuel cost. So as to make the costly mistake worthwhile, I stopped by a restaurant by the waterfront (which was closed, by the way ... another bummer) and just had to take this shot.
Last year, I caught this pix at a paddy (or is it padi?) field in Sekinchan, Selangor ......
The bird flew out of the paddy bushes as the farmer was spraying fertiliser.
Last weekend, I was up north at Kepala Batas, Pulau Pinang. On my way back to KL, I stopped by the road side to catch a few photos of a farmer spraying pesticides to his crop (the lighting really caughty my eyes). I had a pleasant surprise when I almost caught a similar picture as the one in Sekinchan last year .....
Deja vu.....
Here are some more action shots at the stadium .....
Portraits of expression ....
The finals is scheduled today but I can't make it to the stadium this afternoon. I will be attending my son's school concert which clashes with the rugby finals.
I posted a photo of three of my kids yesterday and a few friends and relatives asked where I made the shot. I told them that it was done at home using whatever "tools" I have and set up a very crude home studio.
The photo was taken many months ago but I think I'll share this with my friends ... again ... with some pix. Luckily I took some pictures to document the DIY project :D.
I have a couple of flash guns and I converted one into a diffuser, and made one into a "snoot". First, the DIY diffuser. I used an empty apple juice container which is white, with sand blasted surface texture, but the bottle to fit the flash head like this ....
A test fire .... the light from the flash was nicely diffused and bounced around the white walls of the living room.
The other flash was converted to a snoot, to control the direction of the flash. I used a used photographic paper spool which I got from the printing lab I frequent to.Attached the spool to the flash head, using paper to adjust the spool to fit the flash head so that it won't fall off. This is what it looked liked ...
These were the initial test shots ... the kids were already in their PJs
And the final result, with a black cloth as a backdrop .... taa...daaa....
